Production of Insulating Glass and Insulating Glass

For Insulating Glass Production Glass Preparation Line

The field life of insulating glass units depends on how clean and how smoothly edged the glass is before assembly. Deka's vertical washing, grinding, and drilling machines automate these two critical steps at the entry point of your insulating glass line; directly improving the adhesion of butyl and secondary sealant to the glass.

The unit's lifespan is determined by its glass surface and edge.

The most common field failures in insulating glass — in-unit condensation, butyl leakage, edge separation — are often not due to assembly errors, It is a preparation error.. Oil film or operating dust remaining on the surface prevents the primary seal from wetting the glass. Sharp, burr-like edges left after cutting compromise both operator safety and the proper seating of the spacer. A vertically operating preparation line solves both of these problems at the source without having to tilt or raise the glass.

Perfect wash
A brush and water regime that does not damage the Low-E coating; a clean, dry, and static-free glass surface to which the primary sealant will adhere.
Smooth edge
Removal of microcracks and burrs after cutting; ensuring proper spacer seating and preserving edge strength before tempering.
Vertical flow
Your glass line already moves vertically. Processing it without tilting and lifting reduces both the floor area and breakage caused by handling.

Frequently asked questions about insulating glass production.

In the insulating glass production line, does washing or break-in come first?
After cutting and shaping, the process begins with grinding, followed by washing. It is crucial that the glass dust and grinding slurry produced during grinding do not remain on the surface; therefore, washing is always the final step immediately before assembly. If drilling is required, it is positioned after grinding and before washing.
Can I wash Low-E coated glass in the same machine?
Yes, but brush stiffness, brush speed, and water quality must be adjusted according to the coating. For soft-coat Low-E glass, using a softer brush and deionized water is recommended; hard water will leave streaks and matte marks on the coating. In VGWM, brush groups can be selected to make this distinction.
Which edge treatment is sufficient for insulating glass?
Since the insulating glass unit is enclosed within a frame, edge trimming (arris) is usually sufficient; polishing is not necessary as the edge is not visible. However, if the glass is to be tempered, the edge quality directly affects the risk of breakage — in this case, flat edge trimming should be preferred.
Can I add to my existing double-glazed window system later?
Yes. Deka machines can operate independently or be integrated into existing lines at the conveyor and signal level. If you share your line's glass measurement range, target cycle time, and existing control structure, we can determine the appropriate configuration together.

Technical and line integration

Does the washing water need to be treated?
It is necessary. The conductivity of the final rinse water must be low; otherwise, lime and mineral residues will remain on the glass after drying. In insulating glass production, these residues are both a visual defect and weaken the adhesion of the primary seal. A closed circuit fed by a reverse osmosis or deionization unit is recommended.
What determines the capacity of the line?
The bottleneck is always the slowest station. The washing speed is constant in m/min; the grading speed, however, varies depending on the glass thickness and the desired edge quality. If drilling is involved, the number of holes directly affects the cycle time. If you share your target capacity, we can calculate together how many lines each station should have.
How much space do the machines take up?
This is the most significant advantage of vertical machines. While a horizontal washing machine requires a floor area equal to the width of the glass, a vertical machine operates at a depth of approximately one meter. Typically, less than half the floor area is sufficient for the same production capacity.
Does it include installation and operator training?
Yes. Installation, commissioning, and operator training are included in the delivery. Training is conducted on-site with the shift personnel who will operate the machine; the maintenance plan and spare parts list are provided with the delivery.
