Shower Enclosure and Glass Door

In Shower Cabin Manufacturing Edge and Hole

In shower enclosure and glass door production, the edges and holes of the glass are the surfaces that the customer directly sees and touches. Hinge and handle holes must fit precisely, and the edges must be polished to a pristine shine. Deka's vertical grinding, drilling, and CNC machines make this finishing quality repeatable in mass production.

Here, edge quality is the product itself.

In insulated or facade glass, the edge is hidden within a frame. In shower enclosures, however, the edge is completely exposed, the user touches it every day, and even the smallest flaw results in a complaint. In this industry, polishing is not a choice, it's a necessity. Similarly, hinge, handle, and lock holes are fixed points that leave no room for adjustment during assembly. Because the glass will be tempered, all of these holes must be drilled in the correct location in a single installation before the furnace — there is no possibility of correction afterwards.

Polished edge
A glossy, smooth finish for exposed and touched edges; consistent quality in every piece throughout mass production.
Hinge hole sensitivity
The hinge, handle, and lock holes are drilled in a single installation with precise positioning to meet assembly tolerances.
Model variety
Different dimensions and hole patterns for each order. Moldless switching via CNC program change, efficient production even in small batches.

Frequently asked questions about shower enclosure and glass door manufacturing.

What edge treatment is needed for shower enclosure glass?
Because the edge is completely exposed and handled by the user. polishing It is standard practice. Straight beveling is sufficient for safety reasons, but it leaves a matte and rough surface; this creates a perception of low quality in the finished product. Decorative edges such as C-profiles or chamfers are also commonly desired in this industry.
Why should hinge holes be drilled before tempering?
Tempered glass cannot be drilled — any attempt to drill will result in the glass shattering completely. Therefore, hinge, handle, and lock holes, as well as all sectioning and pocketing, must be completed before entering the furnace. A hole drilled in the wrong location cannot be corrected, and the glass will be scrapped.
Each order has a different size; is a mold change necessary?
No. In vertical CNC machining centers, the dimensions and hole patterns are defined by program; there are no mechanical mold changes. In jobs where each order is different, such as shower enclosure production, this makes even small batches economical.
What glass thicknesses are being worked with?
Tempered glass is typically used in shower enclosures at 6, 8, and 10 mm thicknesses; 10 and 12 mm are also common for glass doors. Deka machines are configured to cover this range. If you share the thickness range you are working with, we can clarify the appropriate adjustment range together.

Technical and production flow

How much does polishing slow down the process compared to rinsing?
Polishing requires a larger stone set and a lower feed rate than flat edging; in practice, the cycle time is significantly longer. This is an accepted cost in shower enclosure production because the edge is the visible surface of the product. If you have a target daily volume, we will calculate the required number of milling wheels accordingly.
When is a countersink hole necessary?
Countersinking is essential for concealed screw or handle connections; the fastener must not protrude from the glass surface. Additionally, countersinking softens the sharp edge at the hole opening, reducing stress concentration at that point during tempering. DD6 and FSR perform this process in the same setup.
Is washing necessary?
It's necessary. Glass dust and mud remaining on the surface after grinding and drilling will permanently adhere to the glass in the tempering furnace. In a product with a completely visible surface, such as a shower enclosure, this is an unacceptable defect.
Is it suitable for a small workshop?
Yes, that's the strongest point of vertical machines. While a horizontal line requires a floor area equal to the width of the glass, a vertical machine operates at a depth of approximately one meter. Most shower enclosure manufacturers operate in medium-sized workshops; this difference is a decisive factor in the investment decision.
